Have a Fiesta, Then Take a Siesta - 10/1/18

Hola hola!!

How is it monday again. How many mondays do they have a week in Texas. that's what I would like to know!!

FIRST OFF: WE HAVE SOMEONE ON DATE! FOR BAPTISM! THIS MY FIRST EVER! So here is the story! We knocked an apartment building where a less active sister lived and were on our way out when we get a call from a weird salt lake number! Temple square sisters! They say hi sisters do you have a minute to talk about a referral we're about to send you! We say do we ever!! So they tell us about this man Morris who chatted online with the temple square sisters and wanted a book of mormon!! So we're like okay we'll head over there right now! We got the referral, within 10 minutes we were at his house, within the hour he'd agreed to be baptized on OCTOBER 13TH!! So here's the deal, he's a precious grandpa from liberia, and is the father in law of a cute sister in our ward! He lives in the same house that we'd visited before! what! He's already been taught all the lessons, been to church, and committed to baptism in liberia but couldn't because the government! So I was like.... so will you follow your Savior's example and be baptized in His name? n he was like .... of course I'm getting baptized !!! We're teaching him like 4 times a week to get him ready in 2 weeks and he calls us his "sisters who's bringing him to Jesus Christ". yall. my heart. People have been SO PREPARED. God directs our paths I know it!

finish: Sister porter only has about 2 months left of her mission so President challenged her to SPRINT it and she's totally going for it!! We're setting some pretty xtreme goals such as but not limited to: finding 7 new investigators a week, 2 people with a baptismal date each week, 2 who attend church, and at least 1 baptized and confirmed!! Raising the bar has so pushed us! We're out longer, later, and talking to EVERYONE. and this week we got Morris on date and Mar working towards baptism (we fasted on sunday to help her quit smoking and drinking) and Olivia and Morris at church!! miracles come when you challenge yourself!

"Farsee": my vocabulary is expanding in the south even more than just yall! Farsee is literally a unit of measurement super southerners use, it's the exact distance from where you are to the farthest point you can see, to use it in a sentence you could say "how many farsees to the nearest kroger" yalll what.

funny: any past or present missionaries reading this will know all about roleplay, and will probably hate it haha. Roleplay is how we practice our lessons and door approaches and invitations, etc. basically you play the investigator and your comp plays the missionary. Its a small cringe but really helps so much. anyways sister P and I wanted to spice up our roleplaying so we built (?) a friend out of some old elders clothes in our apartment! Pictures are below. go royals haha

fiesta: the spanish wards in our stake made a ton of papoosas and tacos and tortillas and frijoles and hot dogs haha and prepared a bunch of dances from so many different countries!! The whole stake was invited and it was SO cool to see everyone in their cultural getup!! The church smelled like cafe rio during fast sunday the next day, muy dificil haha

faith: this week was zone conference! An amazing amazing day of learning and instruction and practice. President is challenging us to focus on the Doctrine of Christ and letting it motivate us to talk with EVERYONE and share the gospel with EVERYONE! and gospel means good news and it's pretty much the best news in all of eternity yall! share it with EVERYONE! President Guthrie blew our minds by pulling out Michael Jordan's first ever pair of baseball cleats that of course he owns! Excuse me! He was teaching us how to set goals and make plans! Basically MJ was super successful of course and when his dad died he decided to pursue his childhood dream of playing baseball! like he did with his dad. He was absolutely awful when he started and everyone considered him a failure. in an interview he told the reporter that everyone was wrong! He showed him his hands - all blistered and taped and beat up - and said that he'd come to work his hardest and be the best he could! which is what he did!! I've learned every day that if I do my personal best and work my hardest, I can have peace and comfort! I can believe in God and His guidance because I believe in MYSELF and my actions! You can't believe that God will help you if you don't believe that you're doing all you can to obey Him. Everybody falls short but everybody still gets mad blessings!! Our Heavenly Father ROCKS!!

yall I can't even say how 1700% percent excited I am for Gen Con!! Our paper chain is down to 4 links! My challenge to you is to ask what to ask for! through revelation we can know what lack you yet - haha - the questions you can pray about and look for from our dear President Nelson and everyone that speaks! I can promise you they'll be answered! miracles come. God is real. Our Savior lives! I love you children of God too much

all my love,

Sister Newman
